Head of EU delegation: EU-China relations better than ever
12/11/2005 11:23
The current relations between the European Union (EU) and China are better
than ever, said Serge Abou, head of the EU delegation of the European Commission
in Changsha Friday. Abou made the remarks during his visit in the capital of
central China's Hunan Province. The sound relationship is marked by numerous
forms of mutual visits. More than 10 EU member states have sent their
delegations to China since he took office in January this year, he said, adding
that Chinese leaders also paid frequent visits to EU countries. Abou was
impressed by the abundant human resources and sound infrastructure of Hunan
Province. At a local industrial park, he said he would tell the EU businesses to
come to Hunan for potential opportunities. He viewed the trade frictions
between the EU and China as inevitable. If there are active trades going on,
there will be frictions, he said. The bilateral trade volume between the EU
and China has increased to 2 trillion RMB (or US$246.91 billion) this year. The
two sides have tried to address the textile trade dispute through cooperation.
An agreement was sealed in this regard in June 2005. The key is not to avoid
trade frictions but to find solutions to address them, Abou said.
