Casting its eyes on the high-end market, a match-maker in Shanghai is shifting business focus to high-profile returnee singles.
In mid September, www.2usmatch.com, an online friend-finder service, will organize the city's first overseas-returned-only matchmaking party for members in the form of a cruise on the Huangpu River, today's Oriental Morning Post reported.
One hundred members will attend the party, according to 2usmatch general manager Bai Naimu.
It is the increasing number of such people that prompted the idea of organizing such a cruise party, Bai disclosed.
"So far as I know, there are over 60,000 overseas returnees in Shanghai, of whom about 20,000 are single.  It is a big market," he said.
The website now has 500 registered members, with over 100 of them having returned from overseas study or work.  More than 80 of these are male.
"It is because, as compared with Chinese women, Chinese men are less willing to find an overseas spouse," Bai explained.
To ensure the authenticity of the members' personal information, Bai said his website requires original copies of academic degrees as well as their overseas experience certificates issued by the city authority.
The current membership fee is 2,000 yuan (US$247), with services including match-making and dating, Bai said.
Contemplating increasing the price to 5,000 yuan, he said he is thinking of adding marriage-consulting as part of an upgrade in services.
