Ten miners were killed in a gas blast at a coal mine in central China's Hunan Province on Friday evening, the provincial administration of coal mine production confirmed on Saturday.
The victims' bodies had all been found by 4:30am on Saturday and the local government has started to discuss the compensation for the victims' families, said Chen Jiankang, head of the administration's office in Chenzhou City, where the mine is located. Fourteen miners were working underground when the explosion occurred at 7:49pm on Friday at the Zhenzhuling Colliery in Chenzhou. Four people escaped from the site, but 10 others died from gas asphyxiation. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
