Shanghai Daily news

A gas blast, flooding and toxic gas killed 36 men in three mining facilities across China during the past week while rescuers were trying to reach 16 missing as of yesterday.
In one case, 10 migrant workers allegedly stealing molybdenum ore died after inhaling a poisonous gas from the mine in Huludao, Liaoning Province.
The highest death toll, 14, was reported in a small coal mine in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. A gas explosion hit a colliery, 45 kilometers from downtown Baicheng, on Tuesday when 25 men were working underground. Eleven escaped.
As of Wednesday, rescue workers had recovered the bodies of all the other 14 miners.
The mine produces about 30,000 tons of coal annually, authorities said.
Also on Tuesday, a coal mine in Sichuan Province flooded, killing 12 workers. Rescue work was continuing for another 16 missing.
Dredging workers had drilled through to a body of water near the shaft, leading to the mishap at the Longtan Coal Mine in Guang'an City on Tuesday night.
Only four of the 32 miners escaped.
The longtan facility has a design capacity of 550,000 tons of coal each year, officials said.
An emergency team has started investigating the cause of the flooding.
In northeastern China's Liaoning Province, the government in Huludao City urged stricter supervision over mines that continue to operate despite suspension orders.
