Angolan Prime Minister Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos said in
Shanghai yesterday that he hoped Angola-China cooperation could contribute
to the post-war reconstruction of Angola.
He said in a meeting with Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng that his country had only
recently emerged from a civil war that severely damaged its economy,
telecommunication facilities and infrastructure.
He hoped China's success in economic development and the close bilateral
cooperation could help Angola to restore its national economy.
Han said China and Angola were both developing countries and should
collaborate to promote the social and economic development.
The Angolan prime minister also visited Shanghai Urban PlanningExhibition
Center where the construction progress and future planning of large projects
such as Shanghai International Airport and the Yangshan Deep-Water Port are
exhibited.
He said the exhibition convinced him that Shanghai was ambitious in its urban
construction and in its steps to realize its goals.
The Angolan prime minister arrived in China on Oct. 29 and willhead to
Beijing to attend a summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation running on
Nov. 4 and 5.
