HIV carriers rise

A total of 498 HIV carriers have been found in the first 11 months of this
year from people coming in and out of China, up 7 percent from the same period
last year, the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and
Quarantine said yesterday. Of this, 57 percent of the HIV carriers were found by
the administration's branch in southwestern Yunnan Province. Also, 260 serious
accidents involving special equipment, such as gas tank, entertainment
facilities in parks and elevators, took place by November, down 6 percent
year-on-year, but killed 255 people, up 15.4 percent year-on-year, according to
the administration.
