15/12/2004 19:46

Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Edmund Ho Hau Wah on Wednesday appointed members of the Executive Council for the second-term SAR government.

The appointment was made in accordance with the Article 50 of the Basic Law of the Macao SAR. The 10 members of the second term Executive Council are Florinda da Rosa Silva Chan, Tong Chi Kin, Leong Heng Teng, Liu Chak Wan, Ma Iao Lai, Ho Iat Seng, Leonel Alves, Cheang Chi Keong, Lam Heong Sang and Leong Vai Tac.

Ho expressed his confidence in the second-term Executive Council's ability in continuing to convey different opinions from the community and help the government in moulding policy, thus building a solid foundation for the long-term prosperity and stability for Macao.

According to the Basic Law, the Executive Council of the Macao SAR is an organ to assist the chief executive in policy making.

Ho was appointed to a second term by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabaoin September, after he gained a 99 percent support rate in the SAR's first chief executive election in August. His second term as Macao's chief executive will begin on Dec. 20, 2004.

Ho extended his appreciation of the central government's approval on his proposals raised earlier this month that all senior officials in the SAR government remain unchanged for the second-term.

Ho Wednesday paid tribute to the current Executive Council members for their notable contribution to the Macao SAR over the last five years.
