4/3/2006 10:28

An Iranian delegation headed by Alaaddin Burujerdi, head of Iranian Parliament's Commission of Foreign Politics, National Security and Defense, paid a visit to Turkey on Friday.

According to Anatolia News Agency, Burujerdi, as the special envoy of Iran, informed Ankara of the developments on Iran's nuclear program while meeting Turkish Parliament Speaker BulentArinc and Acting Foreign Minister Besir Atalay here. Speaking at a news conference held at the Iranian Embassy, Burujerdi said Turkey supported Iran's use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

He said his meetings in Ankara were positive, noting that Iran used nuclear energy for peaceful purposes in line with the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Burujerdi said all countries had the right to carry out nuclear activities for peaceful purposes under Article 4 of NPT, claiming that Iran was against nuclear armament.

Meanwhile, the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Friday called on Iran to take necessary steps to end the tension over its nuclear program.

Turkey suggested that Iran should resume talks with the EU and cooperate fully and transparently with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the ministry said.
