Indonesia supported Iran's nuclear proliferation program
for peaceful means, but rejected its use for military purpose, Foreign Minister
Hassan Wirajuda said here on Tuesday.
He made these remarks just before Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
starts his six-day visit to Indonesia on Tuesday.
He said that President Ahmadinejad will discuss nuclear issue with his
Indonesian counterpart President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyonoon Wednesday.
"Therefore it is the first chance for us to hear directly from President
Ahmadinejab about what is the response of Iran on the matter being discussed in
New York now," Wirajuda said, adding "We support the nuclear proliferation for
peace purpose, for energy, because it is the principal right of each country."
The minister said that Indonesia insisted that the process of nuclear
proliferation for energy purpose in Iran will be conducted transparently and
comply with the standard of the International Atomic Agency.
Iran said that it would not build a nuclear bomb, but the United States and
European officials suspected Iran secretly developed nuclear for that purpose.
The Iranian president is scheduled to meet Susilo and other political and
religious leaders here on Wednesday. He is to fly to the resort of island of
Bali on Friday for attending the conference of Eight Developing countries.
