Germany urges Iran to take speedy action to resolve nuclear standoff
25/6/2006 10:41
German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier called on Iran yesterday to
take speedy action to resolve the nuclear program dispute after meeting his
Iranian counterpart Manuchehr Mottaki. Speaking to reporters after the
meeting, Steinmeier said a speedy step from Iran would create the right
environment for a resumption of talks between Tehran and the international
community. The two sides are at "a decisive phase," the German foreign
minister added. For his part, Mottaki said his talks with Steinmeier are "
constructive" and that there are some "positive points" in a package of
incentives offered to Iran. But he also noted there are questions to be
clarified about the incentives offer. Tehran is studying an international
package of incentives made by Britain, Germany, France, the United States, China
and Russia and has yet to formally respond to the
offer.
