Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has written to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, a government said in United Nations yesterday without disclosing the content of the letter.

The letter was handed to the German charge d'affaires in Tehran by Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki, the spokesman said.

Germany is pressing, together with other western countries, Iran to stop its uranium enrichment program for an offer of political and economic incentives.

Meanwhile, Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani said on Thursday that the country would continue its nuclear activities.

The European Union trio - Germany, Britain and France - introduced draft resolution on Iran's nuclear issue to the UN Security Council, urging Iran to suspend enrichment -related activities.
