The Unite States said yesterday that there is no sign that Iran is complying
with the demand of a UN resolution that asks Iran to stop uranium enrichment.
"There have been a variety of public statements from the Iranians, but we
haven't seen any evidence yet that they are complying with the demand and
requirement of the international community," State Department spokesman Sean
McCormack said at a briefing.
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will go to New York this week to
oversee UN attempts to bring about a cease-fire in the Middle East, and she will
also confer with foreign ministers on how to deal with Iran, McCormack said.
The UN Security Council passed a resolution on July 31 and gave Iran until
Aug. 31 to suspend enrichment or face the threat of economic and diplomatic
sanctions.
However, Iran has said that it will continue its uranium enrichment.
