Talks on Iran's nuclear program, scheduled for Wednesday between Iranian and
EU officials had been postponed, the Austrian Press Agency reported.
The talks between EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana and Iranian top
negotiator Ali Larijani had been postponed for a couple of days, the Iranian
ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Ali Asghar Soltanieh
said.
He said the talks could take place in Vienna on Friday.
Soltanieh didn't give a reason for the delay, and simply said that it was
more appropriate for both sides to meet later.
The talks had been tentatively set for Wednesday in a final attempt to see if
there was common ground to start negotiations between Iran and the six nations,
which have offered Iran an incentive package in exchange for Tehran's promise to
suspend its controversial nuclear program.
Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States are to meet in
Berlin on Thursday regarding the Iran nuclear crisis.
Iran defied an Aug. 31 deadline by the UN Security Council to freeze its
uranium enrichment
Tehran has insisted on its right to a peaceful nuclear energy development
program and has continued with its uranium enrichment program.
Gregory L. Schulte, chief U.S. delegate to the IAEA, said the United States
was waiting for Iran's new explanations over its non-compliance with the
Security Council deadline and that the council would discuss possible sanctions
against Tehran if it still did not stop uranium enrichment.
