Talks between Iran and the European Union (EU) on Iran's nuclear program
are expected to re-open "very soon," Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki
said yesterday.
EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana and Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali
Larijani will hold their third meeting "very soon" probably in Europe, Mottaki
told AP.
He admitted that Solana and Larijani have been in contact and are
coordinating during the last two or three days, adding that "I think very soon
they will have the next round of discussions."
"We do believe that case has gone once again on track," Mottaki said. "All
the parties should support and make a commitment to support the negotiations and
generally I believe there are possibilities to reach a comprehensive solution
based on negotiations for both parties."
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, at a press conference on the sidelines
of the UN General Assembly on Thursday, insisted that his country's nuclear
program is peaceful and Iran does not need a nuclear bomb.
He also mentioned that Iran is prepared to negotiate on suspending uranium
enrichment activities "under fair and just conditions."
Solana had expected to meet his counterpart in New York last week, but
Mottaki said it was not possible because Larijani's deputy and members of his
delegation were not given U.S. visas.
