The European Union (EU) is ready to resume talks with Iran over the
nuclear issue, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said here on
Monday.
"We are always preparing to resume negotiation with Iran," Steinmeier told a
press conference here.
He said the EU would "stick to the lines" agreed by the foreign ministers'
meeting of six countries in London.
"There will be discussions on the issue within the UN Security Council,
possibly on a resolution," he said, adding "we would try in the first stage to
reach an agreement on sanctions."
Earlier on Monday in Luxembourg, EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana said
his contact with Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani continues, but the
basis to start negotiations on the nuclear issue has not changed.
Larijani and Solana have held a number of meetings to discuss the nuclear
issue in the past two months.
