Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat on Saturday accused Israel of
destroying the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and looking for new peace
partner.
"Israel seeks to destroy the PNA and at the same time looks for a Palestinian
partner who accepts the unilateral actions Israel is planning to carry out in
the future," Erekat told Palestinian radio Voice of Palestine.
"Israel is undermining the PNA through its policy of assassinations, closure
and siege," Erekat said.
Secretary General of the Palestinian Presidency Tayeb Abdul Rahim proposed
dissolution of PNA at a meeting of Fatah Central Committee on Thursday.
"As Israel dose not implement or respect any of the agreements reached
between the two sides and continues its attacks and unilateral measures on
Palestinian territories, I suggested at the meeting consideration of dissolving
the PNA," Saturday's Al-Quds daily quoted Rahim as saying.
PNA President Mahmoud Abbas who chaired the meeting said he would consider
calls for his resignation and dissolving the PNA, sources said.
The suggestion came after Israeli seizure of jailed leader of the Popular
Front for the Liberation of Palestine Ahmed Saadat in a raid on a Palestinian
prison in the West Bank town of Jericho on Tuesday.
