A senior leader in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine
(PFLP) denied earlier reports on Saturday that his group had officially
announced it would join the new Hamas-led cabinet.
"Until now, the PFLP hasn't made any decision whether to join the Hamas-led
cabinet. Our leadership is still studying the situation," Kayed al-Ghoul told
reporters.
"If the PFLP makes up its mind to join or not to join the Hamas-led cabinet,
we will make an official declaration to the press, and we will say what the
reasons are," said al-Ghoul.
"We are seeking to make amendment to the new cabinet's political program that
was presented by Hamas to all parties in the parliament," said al-Ghoul.
PFLP asked Hamas to make clear commitment to the Palestinian basic law and
recognizing the Palestine Liberation Organization as the sole and legitimate
representative of the Palestinians.
Hamas Prime Minister-designate Ismail Haneya is scheduled to declare the
formation of the new cabinet at a press conference at 4:00 p.m. local time (1400
GMT) in Gaza City.
Haneya is also expected to present the new cabinet list to Palestinian
president Mahmoud Abbas who will arrive in Gaza on Saturday evening.
