The first session of the new Hamas-led cabinet due on Monday was postponed
for technical reason, Palestinian Minister of Planning Sameer Abu Aisha said
yesterday.
Aisha told Palestinian radio Voice of Palestine that the meeting to be
chaired by Prime Minister Ismail Haneya was postponed as the video conference
system connecting cabinet members in Gaza and the West Bank city of Ramallah was
not ready.
"It is the first time that the Palestinian cabinet is holding a meeting via
the video conference system," Aisha said. "We are seeking the best system in
order not to be wiretapped."
He revealed that the cabinet had agreed to hold the meeting on Wednesday
after all technical preparations were finished.
The new Palestinian cabinet, made up of Hamas as well as independents and
technocrats, was sworn in last Wednesday.
