Fatah movement's spokesman Ahmed Abdel Rahman said Saturday that neither
his movement nor President Mahmoud Abbas is planning a coup in the Hamas-led
cabinet.
Abdel Rahman made the denial in an interview with the Voice of Palestine
after some Hamas figures clearly accused Fatah, former ruling party, and Abbas
of plotting a coup in the current cabinet formed by Hamas a few weeks ago.
"We would never do so, but if there are mistakes or failure of the cabinet,
everything of course would be handled according to the basic law," said Abdel
Rahman.
As for a new decree to promote Preventive Security Chief RashidAbu Shbak to
the chief of police and national security, which was opposed by the new cabinet,
Abdul Rahman said, "The decree was issued before the elections but the
publication was delayed for reasons related to the elections."
"The decree was legitimate, and we have no intention to foil the cabinet.
Moreover, we want it to succeed along with political harmony," said Abdel
Rahman.
