UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, in response to the latest suicide attack in
Israel, called on the Palestinian Authority to act against the terrorism.
In a statement released Monday by his spokesman, Annan stronglycondemned the
latest suicide bombing in Tel Aviv, saying he was deeply
concerned that civilians continue to be killed by violence in Israel and in the
occupied Palestinian territory.
He called on the Palestinian Authority to take a clear public stand against
such unjustifiable acts of terrorism, noting that President Abbas has done so
and regretting that the new governmenthas not.
Meanwhile, the secretary-general also called on all parties to abide by their
obligations under the international law, and to refrain from actions that
further escalate the situation and put civilians at grave risk.
At least six people were killed and over 40 others were woundedin a suicide
bombing attack near the old central bus station in Israel's commercial city of
Tel Aviv Monday afternoon.
