Palestinian legislator Abdullah Abdullah announced yesterday that a new round
of dialogue will soon be held between Palestinian factions to remove
differences.
The talks are scheduled to begin this week in Ramallah and Gaza through video
conferences, with all factions taking part in.
Abdullah, who heads the political committee of the Hamas-dominated
Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC), told reporters that the dialogue will
focus on "means of overcoming economical crisis."
The dialogue will tackle ways of activating and maintaining the Palestine
Liberation Organization (PLO) as the sole legitimate representative of the
Palestinians, added Abdullah.
The Hamas-led government, which took office in March, does not recognize the
PLO and so does the Islamic Jihad (Holy War). But Hamas said it is ready to join
the PLO when the latter is reformed.
The Fatah movement, which was defeated in January's parliamentary elections,
refused to take part in the Hamas-led government as it does not recognize the
PLO and peace agreements with Israel.
On Monday, the secretary-general of PLC, Mahmoud al-Rumhi, said that the
option of forming a coalition government with the Fatah's participation still
exists.
He said that preparations for the dialogue are completed under supervision of
Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas.
On Tuesday, Fatah Central Committee member Abbas Zaki told the Voice of
Palestine that "we hope that the dialogue will seriously consider Palestinian
interests and help end trade of accusations." Enditem
