A Hamas official affirmed on Tuesday that the Hamas cabinet respects peace
and security in the Kingdom of Jordan.
"I stress on the fact that we are very much interested in Jordan' s security,
peace and stability on all levels," Palestinian Finance
Minister Omer Abdel Razeq told a news conference held in the
West Bank city of Ramallah.
Abdel Razeq made the remarks following the Jordanian announcement that a
Hamas militant leader based in Damascus had given instructions and weapons to
Hamas members in Jordan to carry out armed attacks inside Jordan.
Jordanian officials had earlier announced that the Jordanian security forces
detained several Hamas members who confessed that they were planning armed
attacks in Amman, capital of Jordan.
The announcement was widely condemned by Hamas leaders, which was considered
"unfair accusations."
Abdel Razeq also denied that Hamas was involved in any action against Jordan,
adding that "the stability in Jordan is the stability in the Palestinian
territories."
"Anyone who stands behind such accusations is aiming at damaging the ties
between Jordan and the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), also between
Palestinian and Jordanian people," said Abdel Razeq.
