Hamas-led cabinet slams US stance against money transfer
27/4/2006 10:49

Spokesman of the Hamas-led Palestinian government Ghazi Hamad criticized on Wednesday the US stance on pressuring banks not to transfer money to the cash-strapped government.

Hamad told the Voice of the Palestinians that the United States is trying to threaten those banks not to deal with the Palestinian National Authority, saying that the U.S. attitude is immoral and extortionate.

But Hamad said that the government is ready to talk with the international community, including the U.S. administration and the European Union, over the matter.

"We have repeatedly said that the government does not oppose such talks, but European countries and Americans are adopting a negative attitude regarding the government," he said.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Ismail Haneya said that he is ready to begin direct talks with his British counterpart Tony Blair.
