Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haneya welcomed on Sunday a call by
President Mahmoud Abbas for internal talks between various Palestinian factions
next month.
Haneya, who heads the Hamas government, affirmed that his welcome to a
national dialogue was not out of the current crisis.
"We welcome the national dialogue which is not coming as are sult of a
crisis," Haneya told a news conference, adding that "the government and the
legislative council must have their powers and authorities carried out."
Abbas has called for talks in which all Palestinian faction should
participate.
Haneya, who headed the Hamas faction defeated the Fatah movement led by Abbas
in a January Palestinian legislative election, has disagreed with Abbas over
peace negotiations with Israel.
The Hamas premier said that Abbas "can go in any direction, however,
negotiation experience has failed, and renewing it, means a new suffering for
the Palestinian people."
The talks were proposed to begin on May 2 in a bid to discuss the current
financial crisis since Hamas was sworn in a month ago as donors suspended their
direct aid and fund to the Palestinian treasury due to Hamas' rejection to
renounce violence.
