Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on Sunday strongly denied a press
allegation that its armed wing plotted to kill Palestinian President Mahmoud
Abbas and Fatah legislator Mohammed Dahlan.
British newspaper The Sunday Times recently reported that Eizel-Deen
al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, had planned to kill Abbas and
Dahlan in their Gaza offices.
The Sunday Times also said that the Israeli intelligence service had
discovered and helped thwart the plan. "These allegations are totally untrue,"
spokesman of Hamas parliamentary bloc Salah al-Bardaweil said, adding that "in
any case, we should not trust what the Israeli intelligence says." "These fibs
meant to create internal conflicts among the Palestinians," Al-Bardaweil said.
A spokesman for Abbas, Nabil Abu Rudeina, also dismissed the report as
baseless in a statement on Sunday.
