The Hamas-led government has refused to join a delegation to Amman to
examine evidence against Hamas members who allegedly smuggled weapons into
Jordan, a Palestinian official said in Amman on Sunday.
Hamas has informed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas that it is "not interested" in taking part in a delegation to Amman
for a briefing on alleged Hamas plot to attack Jordan, Atta Khairy said.
Hamas-led Palestinian government claimed it was not directly involved in the
matter, and asked the kingdom to communicate directly with the Hamas leaders
exiled in Syria "because they were accused of the plots," Jordanian government
spokesman Nasser Judeh said.
Judeh also said Jordanian authorities would reveal details on the seized
weapons and the detained militants, as well as expose violations by Hamas
members in Jordan over a long period of time.
On April 19, Jordan cancelled a scheduled visit to Amman by Hamas foreign
minister Mahmoud Zahar after uncovering various types of weapons smuggled by
Hamas activists.
A week later, Jordan arrested several Hamas activists suspected of planning
terror attacks in the country.
Hamas denied the charge as "totally false and groundless."
During his visit to Jordan on April 22, Abbas said a high-level Palestinian
political and security delegation was going to visit Jordan to study the issue.
