Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, visited Spain's national
soccer team on Tuesday in their hotel and wished them luck ahead of their trip
to Germany to play in soccer's World Cup, which begins Friday.
Zapatero joined the team for breakfast, then took photos with the squad on
the patio of the hotel, which is close to the Madrid airport.
He said that he was convinced that Spain would give a great performance in
the Cup, saying that Spanish soccer was experiencing a purple patch, citing the
recent UEFA Cup won by Spanish league team Sevilla and the Champions League won
by Barcelona.
He also did not rule out the possibility of traveling to Germany to watch a
game, and praised team captain, Raul, who has not played for the last three
months, hoping to recover from an injury in time to take part in the Cup.
