Belgium's Henin climbs back to world's No. 3
13/6/2006 16:25

After winning the French Open on Saturday, Belgium's Justine Henin-Hardenne has climbed to the third place in the latest WTA world rankings.
Ranked fifth before the tournament, Henin beat Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia 6-4, 6-4 to win her third Roland Garros crown. She also won the title in 2003 and 2005.
Amelie Mauresmo of France is still at the top, but with just 40 points away, Belgian Kim Clijsters is almost neck and neck.
Henin was the world's number one in 2003 before injuries and a virus disrupted her career.
She has made it clear though that her health is coming first now and that she won't be tempted into playing too many matches to get hold of the number one spot again.
It's not certain Henin will take part in the Eastbourne grass event to prepare for Wimbledon, according to VRT news.
However, Henin is expected to take part in the Fed Cup semi-finals next month in Ostend, Belgium.
"Justine is eager to play for her country," said Carl Maes, coach of the Belgian Fed Cup team, at the weekend.
"Before the semi-final clash with the Unites States, she plays Wimbledon. If she doesn't pick up an injury in London, she will represent Belgium in Ostend."
This would mean that Belgium can count on both Clijsters and Henin for the semi-final showdown against the United States.
