Mexican soccer forward Jared Borgetti, the teams top goalscorer in the
qualifying round, will be unable to play for between eight and 10 days, after an
injury sustained in minute 57 of Mexico's Sunday game with Iran, according to
Tuesday reports reaching here.
Borgetti, who plays for English league team Bolton Wanderers, sustained a
grade one injure in his femoral bicep muscle, the Mexican Football Federation
said in a statement.
Borgetti had been trying to reach a ball in the second half, when Mexico was
already 3-1 ahead.
The Federation said that the player "has undergone two studies: an ultrasound
scan and computerised axial tomography. Both confirmed the diagnosis."
Once eight days have passed doctors will examine to see if he can play
straight away or will have to wait two more days.
Borgetti will miss Thursday's Angola-Mexico match in Hannover, but could be
available for the June 21 match against Portugal in Gelsenkirchen.
Borghetti scored 38 goals in his last 76 international matches, 14 of them in
qualifiying round for the 2006 World Cup, making him Mexico's top goalscorer in
the North America, Central America and Caribbean zone qualifying tournament.
