Neville doubtful for the game against Trinidad & Tobago

England defender Gary Neville, who pulled out of Wednesday's training due
to a calf injury, is doubtful for his side's next game against Trinidad &
Tobago on Thursday. The Manchester United right back has been struggling with
a hamstring injury since the end of the Premiership season but it is a calf
strain that is making him a major doubt. At a press conference England
manager Sven Goran Eriksson confirmed that if Neville fails to prove his fitness
then either Jamie Carragher or Owen Hargreaves would deputise. "Neville has a
calf problem and is doubtful, very doubtful for tomorrow," confirmed
Eriksson. "We'll see tomorrow morning, he's going to do the scan now and we
will know a bit better later. "Carragher is one choice, the other choice is
Hargreaves - one of them will take his place if Neville does not make
it." Hargreaves has not enjoyed the best of starts to the World Cup after
being booed in his adopted homeland upon coming on as a substitute in England's
first game against Paraguay. He has, though, since claimed he is ready to
prove his quality to the England faithful in Germany and could now be handed an
opportunity to do so as early as Thursday. Carragher has enjoyed an excellent
campaign at Liverpool and although having a wealth of experience at right back,
his best work has primarily come as a central defender.
