The authorities of Power Development Board(PDB) in Bangladesh has beefed
up security measures as football fans attacked many PDB offices for power
cut. In many places fans staged angry protests as they could not watch the
World Cup matches of their favorite teams due to power cut by the PDB as the
country is facing an acute shortage of power. Bazlul Haque, spokesperson of
the PDB told Xinhua Friday that there were some agitation in a few places where
power supply is disrupted at the time of World Cup matches. But he said the
power generation has increased during the last few days. Haque said board
officials were afraid as angry soccer fans are staging demonstrations and this
is the reason for tightening security situation around the power offices where
there are possibility of being attacked. The country has shortage of 1200 MW
to 1800 MW for which even the diplomatic areas in the capital Dhaka were not
spared of load shedding. Most of the areas in the Bangladesh capital experienced
