Record of reds equalled in World Cup history
18/6/2006 9:15

Three red cards were fished out in the on-going Group E match between Italy and the United States in  Kalserslautern on Saturday, equalling a World Cup finals record.

American Eddie Pope was sent out in the 47 minutes for a second bookable offence after team mate Pablo Mastroeni and Italian Daniele De Rossi were red-carded directly by Jorge Larrionda of Uruguay in the first half.

The World Cup finals have recorded three dismissals in a game three times, namely in 1938 between Brazil and Czechoslovakia, 1954 between Brazil and Hungary and 1998 between Denmark and South Africa.
