Pele says France's show at World Cup "disappointing"
23/6/2006 10:23

Pele said yesterday that he was disappointed with France's performance at the World Cup.

"I have been disappointed with France," the Brazilian told the FIFAworldcup.com. "They came here with the responsibility of rectifying the lackluster impression that they left behind at the last World Cup. Up to now, they still haven't done that."

France, who won the World Cup in 1998, didn't even get through to the second phase four years ago.

He added that Ronaldo is still likely to break the great Gerd Muller's record as the all-time leading World Cup goalscorer.

"If he carries on playing, he could still have another five games to get the record. There's no doubt that he is a player with real goalscoring ability, and he is capable of beating the record."
