Goals not matter as long as winning World Cup: Brazil's Ronaldo
26/6/2006 14:53
Brazilian soccer star Ronaldo Nazario said yesterday that he is focused on
winning the 2006 World Cup, not on how many goals he personally might score or
on his chances becoming the Cup's biggest goalscorer. "My ambition is to win
the Cup and if I score goals, even better. But I don't have this an obsession
with becoming the World Cup's biggest goal-scorer, or with setting records,"
said Ronaldo, who matched Germany's Gerd Muelller's 14 World Cup goal record,
during Brazil's Group F match against Japan. "I am happy because I have
reached 14 goals, and if I can improve it, all to the good," he added. "I have
rested and trained. I made good use of the rest day with my son Ronald and my
family. Everything is coming out well," he said. He added that he had no
special preference as an attack partner, seeing no difference between Adriano or
Robson de Souza. "I want to be in the middle, and play well no matter who is
my partner. But everyone is in the same boat when it comes to that. Whoever
plays will try to give their best and, whoever doesn't play will be waiting for
an opportunity," he said. He added that Brazil was very well prepared for any
rival that may come. The team was studying its next rival, seeking weaknesses to
exploit.
