Portugal ask FIFA to review Deco's suspension

Portugal coach Luis Felipe Scolari told reporters yesterday he would ask
soccer's governing body, FIFA, to look at the suspension received by Anderson
Luis de Souza, Deco, on Sunday. "Deco was pushed before he received the
second yellow card which caused his sending off," Scolari, a Brazilian,
said. Portugal eliminated the Netherlands from the World Cup on Sunday,
winning a foul-filled game 1-0. The team will play England in the
quarter-finals. Scolari showed document signed by all the players promising
to play clean, and added, "If we assume the responsibility to play clean,
referees must do so as well." He also complained that a Dutch player had
tackled Cristiano Ronaldo so hard that he had to leave the pitch injured and may
not be available to play for some time. "Ronaldo has a muscular hematoma," he
said. FIFA said it will not punish Portugal captain Luis Figo for headbutting
his Dutch counterpart Van Bommel. "The player has already been punished
during the match," FIFA said in a statement.
