Portugal midfielder Hugo Viana has warned his teammates that his country had
achieved nothing by simply winning through to a semifinal against France.
"We have a dream but we haven't won anything yet," he told FIFAworldcup.com.
"If we go to the Final and take second place, no-one will remember us -- they
will remember the team that won the tournament only. We want to win but we have
a tough game on Wednesday.
"We were confident before the England game and we are more confident now but
we know France will want to win the World Cup as well -- it will be a very
exciting game."
After beating the Netherlands 1-0 in the Round of 16, Portugal edged past
England as 3-1 winners on penalties after a goalless draw in Gelsenkirchen. In
reaching the semifinals via two such tight matches, Luiz Felipe Scolari's side
have displayed an admirable mental toughness.
"In the dressing room afterwards he (Scolari) told us we were fighting very
hard," said Viana. "Since the group stage we've had two hard games and France
will be the same. The Dutch game was difficult as we lost two players (Costinha
and Deco) to red cards but the England game was the toughest test we've had so
far.
"England played a good game but penalties are a lottery and anything can
happen. We missed two but we still won the game," added Viana, who saw his own
kick rebound off a post.
