Spain yesterday condemned bomb attacks on trains in Mumbai, India, which
killed at least 137 people and injured more than 300 others.
In a telegram to Indian President Abdul Kalam, Spanish King Juan Carlos
condemned the "brutal" attacks and expressed his concern over the tragedy.
Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero also sent a telegram to his
Indian counterpart, Manmohan Singh, saying, "Spain can only feel very close to
India."
The attack recalled "the tragic scenes seen in Madrid on March 11, 2004," he
said.
Zapatero expressed the "deep upset and pain caused by these extremely serious
attacks," and spoke of the "solidarity and affection of the Spanish people."
He also expressed his commiserations to the families of those who died and
wished those who were injured a speedy recovery.
Reports from India said the blasts appeared to have come in quick succession,
an indication that Kashmiri militants, who have repeatedly targeted India's
cities, could be responsible.
