Australia today condemned the bombing attacks in Mumbai, India, describing it
as "cowardly terrorist attacks."
Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said in a statement that "this senseless
slaughter of innocent civilians reinforces the continuing importance of strong
international resolve to confront the threat posed by terrorism wherever it
threatens our communities."
"We share with India a determination to deepen our counter-terrorism efforts
as part of establishing broad regional cooperation to combat violent extremism
in all its forms," he said.
He also expressed sympathy and support for the government and people of
India.
At least 140 people were killed and many others injured in a series of
bombing attack upon Mumbai's suburban rail network during the peak travel times
for commuters on Tuesday.
