The Israeli security cabinet yesterday decided to continue intensive fighting
against Lebanese Hezbollah.
"The intensive fighting against Hezbollah will continue, including attacks on
the group's infrastructure and command posts, its operational abilities, its
armaments, and the leadership of the organization," said a statement issued
following a security cabinet meeting.
The statement said that aims of the ongoing military actions were to release
two soldiers kidnapped by the Shiite militant group on July 12, halt rocket
attacks on northern Israel and to remove the Hezbollah threat.
In addition, the security cabinet approved to continue military actions
against Palestinian militant groups including the Islamic Resistance Movement
(Hamas) in a bid to stop rocket firing and free a soldier taken hostage by
Palestinian militants on June 25.
Hezbollah continued shelling Israel with rockets, while Israel intensified
its military offensive against Lebanon.
Over 250 Lebanese, most of them civilians, have been killed in the conflict
between Israel and Hezbollah, while 25 Israelis have been
killed.
