Jordanian Prime Minister Marouf Bakhet yesterday affirmed Jordan's support
to Lebanon where Israel kept up a massive assault against the Lebanese Shiite
group Hezbollah.
During a phone call to his Lebanese counterpart Fouad Siniora, Bakhet
expressed Jordan's deep concerns about the current crisis in Lebanon, Jordan's
official Petra news agency reported.
Bakhet also said that Jordan was keen to provide care to Lebanese nationals
who had arrived in Jordan and would support Lebanon at all circumstances,
according to the report.
In addition, the Jordanian prime minister also briefed Siniora on contacts
made by Jordanian King Abdullah II on regional and international levels in an
effort to put an end to the Israeli military operation.
Israel launched a massive assault in Lebanon after Lebanon's Hezbollah
guerillas snatched two Israeli soldiers and killed eight during cross-border
attacks on July 12.
In response, Hezbollah rained rockets on northern Israel. About 300 Lebanese,
most of them civilians, and 29 Israelis including 15 civilians have been killed
in the nine-day-old confrontations.
