22/7/2006 10:09

Hundreds of Indonesian students and youths in Yogyakarta and Semarang of Central Java province held rallies yesterday to condemn Israeli military aggression against Palestine and Lebanon.

In Yogyakarta, young people grouped in the Yogyakarta Community's Care for Lebanon and Palestine, also strongly condemned the United States for supporting the Israeli military actions.

They urged the United Nations to issue a resolution against the Israeli attacks on Palestine and Lebanon.

The students and young people asked the Indonesian government to be proactive in helping stop the Middle Eastern conflicts, the Antara news agency reported.

The Yogyakarta rally coordinator, Amril Fadli Uhsan, said that Palestine has been occupied by Israel for more than 20 years and lost a lot of lives of her people due to the brutal actions of Israel.

"To deal with the cruelty, the Muslims all over the world, including Indonesia, must unite and support the peoples of Palestine and Lebanon. We want to build the Muslim solidarity toward Palestine and Lebanon," he said.

In Semarang, the Indonesian Muslim Student Action (KAMMI) held a rally in front of the regional legislative assembly's office, denouncing the Israeli military actions.

About 100 university students bringing banners and poster condemning Israel took part in the demonstration.

They demanded Israel to release Palestinian children and women, and asked other countries not to be persuaded by the United States, which allow the blood of Palestinian and Lebanese people to be shed.
