Israeli military base attacked by Hezbollah guerillas

Hezbollah guerillas attacked an Israeli military base near the Israeli
border with Lebanon yesterday, injuring one Israeli soldier, the Israeli army
said. An army spokesman told Xinhua that Hezbollah guerillas attacked the
Nurit army base near the Israeli town of Avivim. It was believed that the
attack was carried out by Hezbollah snipers, said the spokesman, adding that one
Israeli soldier was wounded. The Israeli army is currently investigating the
incident. Israel started a massive offensive in Lebanon on July 12 when
Lebanon's Shiite group Hezbollah kidnapped two soldiers and killed eight others
in a cross-border attack. Meanwhile, thousands of Israeli troops are being
massed along the border area in preparation for a possible large-scale ground
operation into Lebanon. About 350 Lebanese including civilians and 33
Israelis including 15 civilians have been killed in the 11-day-old violence.
