Hamas-led Palestinian government condemns Israeli attack on Nablus

The Hamas-led Palestinian government condemned yesterday Israeli attacks
against its governmental institutions, especially a security compound in the
West Bank city of Nablus. "These brutal acts committed by occupation forces
in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank show the immorality of the occupation
state," the government said in a statement. On Friday, the Israeli army
announced the end of a three-day operation in Nablus after it destroyed a
security compound housing Palestinian National Authority institutions. A
Palestinian nurse was killed during the demolition of the compound, also known
as al-Muqata'a. Five Palestinians were wounded in a clash with Israeli
troops. Israeli army sources said on Saturday that the operation was aimed at
arresting Palestinian fighters backed by Lebanese Hezbollah, adding that the
wanted militants were hiding in the compound. "Hezbollah's activists were
inside the building," said the sources, adding that Israel decided to arrest the
militants after "their leaders in Syria and Iran asked them to dispatch
attackers to carry out operations inside Israel." Meanwhile, Israel has
threatened to target any Palestinian security headquarters if Palestinian
militants were inside, Palestinian security sources said.
