A total of 42 Nepalese citizens working in Lebanon were evacuated from the
country on Sunday, a spokesman at the Nepali foreign ministry said in
Kathmandu Monday. "Those left Lebanon on Sunday were in close
communication with Nepalese Consulate in Beirut," Spokesman Yadav Khanal told
reporters. "They would have reached Cyprus by an Indian vessel on Sunday and an
Air India plane will bring them to India on Monday if the weather condition
remains good." An additional 48 Nepalese willing to leave Lebanon had
approached the Nepali consulate office there but they were yet to meet in
person, Khanal said. There has been no report of Nepalese being killed or
injured so far, Khanal noted, adding, "The intensified war had prevented many
Nepalese from contacting the concerned officials." The Indian government and
International Organization on Migration were helping to evacuate Nepalese in
Lebanon, he said. Five out of the seven Nepalese rescued from Lebanon
returned Nepal on Saturday evening while the other two went to their relatives'
house in India. According to Khanal, there are about 4,000 Nepalese in
Lebanon.
