25/7/2006 10:12

There was injury when an Israel Air Force Apache helicopter crashed yesterday afternoon near the northern border with Lebanon, the Ha'aretz daily reported. But the report did not give more details.

It was reported that the crash occurred when the helicopter hit overhead power lines, and the Israeli army ruled out enemy fire as the cause of the crash.

Earlier, an Israeli army spokeswoman told Xinhua that the helicopter crashed in the Israeli side of the Israeli-Lebanese border, denying Hezbollah's claim that it was hit by the Lebanese guerrilla group.

The spokeswoman said the crash was due to technical fault, and the helicopter did not encounter any attack from Hezbollah. It was the second accident involving Apache helicopters in a week.

Last Thursday, two Apache helicopters collided and then crashed south of Kiryat Shmona on their way to Lebanon to assist ground offensives against Hezbollah. Enditem
