Israeli army yesterday resumed airstrikes on Lebanese capital of Beirut after
nearly two days suspension.
Several huge explosions were heard and a plume of heavy smoke was seen
billowing up from southern district of the city, a stronghold of Lebanese Shiite
group Hezbollah.
Israeli intense airstrikes has suspended for almost two days due to the visit
of U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who is on a visit in the
Palestinian territories on Tuesday. Israeli airstrikes in the past has destroyed
many
infrastructure of the capital city, including bridges, power plant, water
stations and the only international airport.
Lebanon has been targeted by Israeli military attacks following the capture
of two Israeli soldiers and killing of eight others in a cross-border raid by
Hezbollah on July 12.
More than 300 Lebanese and about 40 Israelis have been killed since the start
of the crisis, it was reported.
