Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Wednesday called on the Knesset
(parliament) to give full support to the military activities in southern
Lebanon.
Addressing Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Olmert said that
Israel needs to act with all forces to see that Lebanese Hezbollah-fired
Katyusha rockets will not return.
Olmert, meanwhile, called for supports from the country's home front, which
came under rocket attacks again Wednesday morning.
"Give us support because the home front must know that we are united," Olmert
said, adding "the home front is strong and I am in awe of its strength."
Talking about the issue of prisoners swap, Olmert said that Israel won't
release prisoners in exchange for Gilad Shalit, an Israeli soldier captured by
Palestinian militant groups one month ago.
"If in the future I will release prisoners, it will only be through dialogue
with (Palestinian National Authority Chairman) Mahmoud Abbas in order to
strengthen him in the eyes of the Palestinian people. But the time is not ripe
for the release of prisoners," Olmert stressed.
