US contradicting itself in Lebanon-Israel issues: Lebanese
27/7/2006 17:05

The US government was contradicting itself in its position on Lebanon-Israel issues, said Lebanese President Emile Lahoud yesterday in a televised speech.

Lahoud said the United States, on one hand, had sent humanitarian aid to Lebanon, and on the other hand it had offered precision-guided weapons to Israel and had not pushed for a ceasefire, effectively supporting Israel in its continued military attack on Lebanon.

Hezbollah (or Party of God) militants would stop their attacks on Israel as long as Israel stopped its campaign against Lebanon as they were not willing to do battle when their families were homeless and their homeland was being destroyed, Lahoud added.

Lahoud again denied the involvement of Syria in the Lebanon-Israel conflict, adding that Israel was always attempting to find pretexts to implicate Syria, Iran and other countries in the confrontation.
