Israeli military chief briefly treated in hospital: TV
29/7/2006 10:30

Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Dan Halutz was briefly treated in hospital on Friday but was allowed to go home later, local Israeli TV reported.

Halutz was taken to Ichilov hospital in Tel Aviv after complaining of stomach pains, Israel's Channel 10 TV reported.

The Israeli military chief was later released after examination and a series of tests which showed nothing wrong with him, the report added.

Halutz, 58, former commander of the Israel Air Force, assumed the position of chief of staff in July 2005.

The Israeli army is pressing ahead an over-two-week-old massive assault against Lebanon's Hezbollah, which was launched on July 12 following the capture of two Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah guerillas during cross-border attacks.

On another front, Israel continues a one-month-old large-scale air and ground offensive in the Gaza Strip in a bid to rescue an Israeli soldier kidnapped by Palestinian militants on June 25 and halt Palestinian rocket attacks.
