New Zealand will be represented at a United Nations meeting to discuss a
possible peacekeeping force for Lebanon.
New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark said Monday she is awaiting the
outcome of the meeting.
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan will preside over the gathering of potential
troop contributors to be held in New York on Monday.
Clark told New Zealand National Radio that New Zealand wants to be involved
in the force in some way.
But she said any participation will be limited to a few people who would
serve as observers, because of this country's commitments in Afghanistan, East
Timor and the Solomon Islands.
She said New Zealand military personnel in the region are currently not
serving near the front line of the fighting in Lebanon.
